Misal Pav



         Spicy misal pav is a famous Maharashtrian dish. It is tasty yet healthy. Lets see how to make it.






Ingredients:

     For curry:
    • 1/2 cup green moong
    • 1/4 cup white peas
    • 1/2 cup matki
    • Handful of Rajma
    • 2 tomatoes chopped finely
    • 2 onions chopped finely 
    • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
    • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
    • 10-12 curry leaves
    • pinch of asafetida
    • pinch of turmeric
    • ginger garlic paste
    • 2 slit green chillies
    • 2 tsp red chili powder
    • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
    • 1/2 tsp garam masala
    • Salt to taste
    • Oil
    • chopped coriander leaves
    • 1/2 tsp imli paste
      For garnish
    • Finely chopped tomato
    • Finely chopped Onion
    • Farsan
    • Coriander leaves
    • Lemon juice
    • 2 boiled & peeled potato chopped

Method:

  • Soak all the lentils for atleast 8 hours. Later remove all the water from the lentils. Cover them & leave them in a dark place for 8 hours. After 8 hours you will notice all the lentils will be sprouted. You can do this the day before you want to enjoy missal pav.
  • Cook all the lentils with turmeric & a pinch of salt beforehand & keep aside.
  • In a pan, heat a little oil. Add mustard seeds. When they pop, add cumin seeds, curry leaves, asafetida & slit green chillies.
  • Then add onion. Fry till onions are translucent. Add 2 tsp ginger garlic paste & saute for 2 minutes.
  • Add chopped tomatoes to it. Fry till tomatoes become soft.
  • Add turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala & salt to taste.
  • Cook the gravy till oil separates from the gravy.
  • Add cooked lentils & cook for 10 minutes on medium heat.
  • Add water if needed to make the curry watery. Add imli paste. Stir well. Close the lid and cook till done.
  • Heat a separate wok. Add oil. Once hot add to it turmeric, 1/4 tsp red chili powder & salt in d oil. Add d boiled peeled chopped potatoes(bite size). Stir it for 2-3 minutes. Set aside.

 Serving:



While serving, take a bowl. Add some fried potatoes to the base. Then some curry & lemon juice. Spread farsan, onion, tomato & coriander leaves on top.
 
 




Add the fried potatoes at the base of the bowl....
 
 




 Tip:
  • Instead of imli, try kokam.
  • U can also make separate curry(onion – tomato – masala & grind them) for additional taste.

Done !! Enjoy it with paav or dahi or just like that.
